Two very different but very average services located in the middle of nowhere on the M4. The eastbound side is slightly larger and it has a small field by the hotel as well as a children's play area and a lot more trees.

Trivia:

The eastbound service area is almost ten years older than the westbound one, which explains the striking difference between the design of the two sites.

Leigh Delamere is listed by the Highways Agency as an "approved truckstop", something which surprisingly few services are. It's one of three services to offer a Barber Shop, the other two being Lymm on the M6 and Toddington on the M1. To be honest, I'm surprised that these shops haven't suffered the same fate as all the other small shops at Moto services.

Over the past year, the services have seen a major changes to the facilities. T2, Thorntons, Little Chef and a Formula One shop have all gone from both sides, the latter being a huge shop which sold a small amount of Ferrari merchandise. The westbound side used to have Birthdays and Scoop stores, and eastbound had a Web Shop and The Body Shop. In November 2006 the country's first service station WH Smith shop opened here, along with the eastbound Marks and Spencer Simply Food store.

There were once plans to rename the services to Chippenham, and beneath the westbound site lies two buried diggers. Why? Who knows!

The westbound restaurant (unbranded) and eastbound Caffè Ritazza units recently became Costa Coffees.

As at Cherwell Valley, there hasn't been a direct replacement of Caffe Ritazza by Costa here. There is a Costa westbound but I think this is in space once occupied by Little Chef; a Caffe Ritazza unit remains within the E&DC area. There is no Costa unit eastbound, where Caffe Ritazza still flourish as a separate unit, there being no E&DC eastbound.

The other distinguishing feature of Leigh Delamere westbound is the large number of abandoned retail units, now seemingly used as storage space.

No sign yet of E&DC eastbound, bar the branding of the sandwiches; the generic restaurant remains 'Fork in the Road', which seems to have been an experimental Moto format introduced no later than last year.

There is a pedestrian bridge there. If you wish to drive, you may have to turn around at a junction on the M4.
