The only 'proper' services on the M2/A2 route, Medway is very old, so much so that the Burger King is on the bridge. The services are quite quiet as new routes such as the M20 and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link have meant that the M2 is no longer as important as it used to be.

Trivia:

Medway is the most eastern motorway service area and it has a works depot located on the westbound sliproad back on to the motorway. The poor road markings mean that it is easy to go wrong here and, instead of rejoining the M2, end up passing through the secret exit (which is in this case ungated) and end up in Rainham.

One unusual thing about the services is that they haven't been expanded very much, if at all, since they opened nearly 50 years ago. They, especially the way the exit from the lorry park runs right in front of the main entrance, give a very good impression as to what the likes of Keele looked like when they were originally built.

Survey results:

In 2006 the services won a four star loo award.

I visited this site last week, and just to let you know that there is no longer an Upper Crust there (that was replaced by the Costa Coffee). The old Little Chef is now an empty outlet.
